About these terms

These terms apply when you use our websites: bookkeeperbrian.com, brianbusiness.com and mylocalbookkeeper.ca. The websites are operated by Powerplay Systems Inc., which trades as Brian Bookkeeping, Brian Business and My Local Bookkeeper. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Powerplay Systems Inc., and "you" means anyone who uses the websites.

By using the websites, you agree to these terms. They cover the websites only. If you become a client, the services we provide to you are covered by your engagement letter, as explained below.

Information on the websites is general

The websites describe our services and explain bookkeeping, GST/HST, payroll and corporate tax in general terms, written for small businesses as a group. It is general information. It is not accounting, tax, legal or financial advice about your business, and it does not take your circumstances into account.

Tax rules, rates and deadlines change, and a page may not reflect a change on the day it happens. Reading the websites, or writing to us, does not make you our client.

Prices and estimates

The prices on the websites describe our plans and our starting prices, to help you decide whether to talk to us. A price on a website is not an offer, and using the websites does not create an agreement for any service.

The catch-up estimator on bookkeeperbrian.com gives an estimate, not a quote. It turns four answers — how far behind your books are, how busy your accounts are, how many bank and card accounts you have, and how organized your records are — into a price range. It does not see your records, so the range can change once we do: for example, if the records need more work than the answers suggested, or GST/HST or payroll filings are outstanding.

The monthly bookkeeping quote form suggests a plan, and that plan's monthly price, from the number of transactions you choose. The suggestion is an estimate as well. Sending the form asks us to come back to you with a price for the work you describe.

What you pay for any work is set out in the engagement letter you accept when you become a client, not by an estimate, a suggested plan or a price on a website.

Forms and booking a call

A form on the websites — an enquiry, an estimate or a quote request — sends what you entered to us so that we can reply. Sending one does not make you a client, does not commit you to anything, and nothing is charged.

The booking tool at bookkeeperbrian.com/book, which brianbusiness.com also links to, lets you choose a time for a free call with us. The call is by phone: we call you at the number you give. Open times are shown in your own time zone. A time is booked only when you confirm it, and we check at that moment that it is still free; if it has just been taken, you are asked to choose another.

The confirmation email we send you includes a link to manage the booking. The link cancels the call; to change the time, cancel and then book a new one. Anyone who has the link can cancel the call. Booking a call costs nothing and does not commit you to becoming a client.

Your personal information

Our privacy policy governs the personal information we collect through the websites, including what you send us through a form or the booking tool. It explains what we collect, who else handles it and where it is stored. These terms do not change it.

If you become a client

If you become a client, your engagement letter governs the services we provide to you: what we do, what we need from you, what you pay and how the engagement ends. It applies once you have accepted it.

These terms cover your use of the websites only. Where these terms and your engagement letter differ, your engagement letter applies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there, and disputes about them are heard in the courts of Ontario.

If you live or run your business in another province or territory, you keep every consumer protection that its laws give you and that cannot be given up by agreement. Nothing in these terms takes that away.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top of it.
